| Data Transfer Policy (Revised May 01, 2006) Data Transfer - Data transfer involves two processes. The first process is information moving across the Internet inbound for a particular server. The second process is information moving from a particular server outbound across the Internet. Data Transfer is therefore defined and may be though of as the physical amount of data transferred from one source point to another. There are no limitations to the actual bandwidth of the connection. Example - Every time someone views a web site they download a certain amount of data, commonly referred to as traffic, which is basically a measure of a Web site's popularity. The total amount of data downloaded at the end of the month, which is comprised of web site traffic (HTTP& HTTPS), FTP (normal & anonymous), streaming media (if you are using it), and any additional services offered on the physical server is your Data Transfer.Advanced Additional Data Transfer Allocation - Additional Data Transfer capacity acquired prior to any account overages. Advanced additional allocations may be acquired for server plans (accounts) at any time during the month and are applied to the account effective with the next billing cycle (anniversary). Advanced allocations are available at significantly reduced rates as opposed to incurred data transfer overage charges. Example - Your server (account) normally bills on the 12th of the month, you purchase an additional allocation of 100GB of data transfer on the 27th of the month. Your new allocation will become effective on the 12th of the following month.Fixed Bandwidth - The speed with which data can be transmitted from one physical device to another. Data transfer rates are often measured in megabits (million bits) or megabytes (million bytes) per second. These are usually abbreviated as Mbps and MBps, respectively. Other terms for fixed bandwidth would be data transfer rate or throughput. Example - Your server is connected to the Internet through a 10 MBps (megabytes) connection. The physical amount of data transferred from one source point to another is no longer measured since the connection permits for an unlimited amount of data transfer at a maximum bandwidth (throughput) rate.Every server plan includes an initial fixed amount of data transfer per month. Please see Transfer Allotment/Allocation for additional information on your specific server plan. Dedicated and Co-Located servers plans are available with billing based upon fixed data transfer (which shall be defined as: Advanced Data Transfer Allocation) to/from the physical server. Co-Located clients additionally have the option of utilizing a Fixed Bandwidth connection to private racks. Data Transfer overages are due and payable immediately upon notification and are automatically billed to accounts between the third and fifth of each month at a flat rate (no discounts apply) of $2.75 (two dollars and seventy five cents) per GB rounded up to the nearest full GB, the credit card on file will be charged automatically and a statement will be sent to client accounts which have incurred data transfer overages. Transaction authorizations which fail to process will be considered Past Due and the client will be notified at the account "Billing Contact" email address of the failed transaction. Clients shall have five days from the initial email notification "sent day" to bring the account to current status. |
